A Day in the Life of Madison

Monday, February 28, 2011

We had a great weekend.  I am so glad that hunting season is over, for two reasons: one, Shane is home more now on the weekends and two, camouflage isn't all in the laundry room anymore!

Madison is still going through a clingy stage.  I am thinking about investing in a baby carrier that I can put on and put her in it.  I think she would actually enjoy it.  Today is the first day she has taken a long afternoon nap.  She used to take a 2-3 hour nap but in the past few weeks, we were lucky if she slept a hour.

Yesterday afternoon I took her over to mom and dad's house so we could spend some time with them.  Dad is starting to feel better each day.  He still has the pic line in and will be receiving antibiotics through it for at least two more weeks.  We are hoping then he will be finished.  He is still doing the hyperbaric chamber five days a week.  He has 4 more weeks left of that.  Fortunately, the toe is starting to look better, too.  We are hoping and praying that they will not have to do a full amputation of that toe.

They really enjoyed their visit with Madison.  I think Madison enjoyed it more because she has surely missed her Mimi and Papa!  I have got to remember to start taking my video camera with me when we go for visits.  Yesterday was a moment I wish I could have captured on video.  Madison wanted dad's undivided attention and was doing a lot of babbling.  I started going through some videos that we took when Amy was here.  I found some that she took while I was helping set up for her baby shower.  I am glad she got Madison on video doing her babble talk!

I apologize for not posting for several days.  Madison is going through a very clingy stage here lately and does not want me to put her down.  She is also having a few minor behavioral issues we have been working on.  That is a whole different story!  I don't know what it is but here lately she doesn't even want to be in her walker much.  As long as I am holding her she is the happiest she can be.

I am not going to be able to post much this morning since Madison will be waking up soon and I need to get some stuff done around the house.  I did want to post a link to a friend of our family's blog.  Amy was asked to be her guest writer for the month of February and she wrote a wonderful post about her faith in this journey we are going down as a family.  I am so lucky to have her as my sister and my best friend.  I hope you enjoy.

Bubbles!!

We are finally feeling settled in again after staying with mom and dad for several days while Shane had the flu.  He is still is not 100 percent yet.  Each day he gets better and better but he still can't get his energy level back to where it was.

Madison has been doing wonderful.  I have been a nervous wreck stressing about her catching the flu.  She still isn't showing any signs of being sick soI am hoping we dodged a bullet on this one.

I told you I would post some of the videos we took while Amy was home visiting.   One of Madison's favorite things to do is to take a bubble bath!  She gets one about every other day.  Lately, when I take her into the bathroom to give her a bath and there isn't any bubbles in the tub, she looks at me and says, "Bubbles?"  Then I will pour some in for her.   She isn't spoiled at all!!!

Day 85

Wow!  Has it really been over a week since I last posted?!?!  We have been crazy busy.  As you know Amy came in and we were able to spend an entire week with her and we LOVED it.  We hated to see her go.   This was the last visit she will get to make until the baby arrives in April.  I have several videos that I will be posting from her visit here.

Last Thursday Shane came home from work with the chills.  This isn't anything out of the ordinary on cold days such as that so we didn't think anything of it.  Friday morning Shane called me and told I might want to wash the bed sheets (since Madison sleeps with us) because he had a sore throat.  By the time he got home he had a fever.  I quarantined him to one side of the house and kept Madison on the other.  Shane slept on the couch.  Saturday morning his fever was 102.  I took Madison to mom and dad's and met Shane at the walk in clinic.  We wanted to limit the contact between the two of them to as little as possible.  They tested Shane for the flu and it came back positive.  I came home and got Shane situated and then packed up several things and Madison and I went and stayed at mom and dad's for a few days to keep her from getting sick.

They told us that Shane wouldn't be contagious after 24 hours of having no fever but with Madison's weak immune system we would be better to wait 48 hours, which we did.  I came to the house yesterday while dad watched Madison and sanitized the house and washed all the blankets, sheets, towels and clothes.  Luckily, neither one of us are showing signs of getting sick.  I hope and pray it stays that way.  =)

We are trying to get Madison back into a regular routine.  She has been spoiled having Amy here and then staying with Mimi and Papa for a few days.

I took this video today as I was spraying Lysol around the house.  We go through a bottle of Lysol a week!  I have always sprayed it regularly with Madison but since sickness invaded our house I have been going CRAZY with it.  Madison got the giggles today as she was watching me spray the Lysol and spin around in circles!!

Day 84

The last few days have been a whirlwind as we prepared for and had a shower for Amy on Saturday.  Such a special day celebrating her and Baby Cristina. The day was a huge success and we can't wait for Madison to meet her new cousin in just ten weeks!

The lighting is horrible on the video, but we shot this tonight during the Super Bowl.  Madison was wide awake and so happy...but her daddy was a different story!  You don't have to listen too hard to hear him snoring in the background.  We thought the game was pretty exciting ourselves! Amy and I were laughing so hard I thought she might go into early labor.  The second video is pretty similar, lots of laughs from Madison, minus the snoring from Shane!

Day-83

Amy was finally able to get to Panama City today!!  We were so excited to see her.  I can't wait to post more pictures of how cute she looks!  Madison was very excited to see her Aunt Amy as well.  The video I am going to post shows it.  As much as Madison loves her Aunt Amy she sure misses her Uncle Paul.  We are looking forward to the week that we get to spend with her.

Dad is still in the hospital.  We are hoping that he will get to come home tomorrow.  They are going to put a pic line in tomorrow so he can still receive his antibiotics.  They are also going to put him in the hyperbaric chamber to try and help with the infection in his toe.  Please continue to keep him in your prayers.

Day 82

Well we should be spending time with Amy right now but because of the massive blizzard going across half the country, her flight got cancelled.  =(  We are hoping tomorrow she can make it and that the flight will not get cancelled.  Dad is still in the hospital but doing better.  We are hoping that he will go home on Friday.  Shane's mom went home from the hospital today.  It has been crazy these past few days!

Madison has been sleeping in our bed with us every night since last summer.  These past few weeks my back has been killing me and I just haven't been sleeping good.  Madison is such a cuddler and she wants to be right there beside you while she sleeps.  I had decided that I was going to start trying to get her back in to her crib.  Her crib is already in our room and I always pull it right beside our bed at night.  I thought last night she would have a hard time going to sleep in the crib.  I couldn't have been more wrong.  She went right to sleep and slept in it until 12:30 this morning.  She cried once and I held her hand until she feel back asleep.  The second time she cried I put her back in bed with us.  It took her a little while to get snuggle up right where she wanted to be but once she did she slept great.  I think this is going to be harder on me than it is on her!  I don't if I can handle her being back in the crib.  I cherish those sweet moments and I don't want them to go away.  We will just take it one day at a time.

I had taken this video a few days ago.  Madison can't roll over all the way .  She has a hard time getting her right hand free.  This video shows how far she can roll.  This is big deal to Madison and she gets so proud of herself when she gets this far.  The video really doesn't capture how proud she gets.  I will try to get a better video of it.  I hope you enjoy it.  =)
